It’s just fantastic, and synergizes well with absolutely everything else in the game. There’s nothing quite like sprinting around a frozen level, firing fixed crossbow bolts that all hit their targets when you snap your fingers again. Once you’ve upgraded this, planning out your attacks becomes much more strategic as you’re not worried about guards instantly spotting the top of your head from across the map. This is the spell that Dishonored uses as a catalyst for some of the best kill/takedown set-ups in the game. This spell alone is one of my biggest regrets picking Emily over Corvo at the start, as the game just doesn’t feel the same without it. Switching over to Corvo, from Blink to Devouring Swarm, he has a lot of classic spells of his own, but for my money, nothing makes Dishonored more fun than Slow Time, which eventually turns into Stop Time. Slow Time Is The Most Fun You Can Have With This Game
Good times, and if you’re unsure of where to put your runes, this one is a must have above all others.Ĥ. I don’t really care for Emily’s Mesmerize or Doppelganger signature spells, but there have been some very fun moments with the link ability, like choking out a guard in the middle of a swordfight, and having them act as a human shield so when another attacker stabs at you, he kills both them and everyone else in the room, including himself, because they were all linked. This works for both lethal and non-lethal tactics, and it’s done wonders for my own playthrough, which is a mix of both. Once you get up to at least three links through upgrades, it’s immensely helpful for clearing rooms. Emily can link up to four enemies together with a spell that allows for whatever you do to one, to happen to all of them. I’ve mentioned that I’m not the biggest fan of Emily’s kit, but she absolutely has one spell that’s worth your while. Invest In Emily's Link Spell Above All Others It’s simply more fun than waiting for spells to recharge after each and every use, and while this is another design decision I don’t agree with, you will have to figure out the best way to adapt to it.ģ. My advice? Be a little bold and don’t worry too much about burning through mana. And if you’re a hoarder like me, you’ll want to save them as much as possible, which results in more conservative, less spell-slinging play. If you do this too often, too quickly, you’ll drain all your mana, and have to replenish with potions that are not ultra-readily available in the game. Pretty standard right? Yes, except for the fact that if you use another spell before the first one is done refreshing, you will not regen the mana from the first spell.įor a game that’s supposed to be about chaining spells together for crazy and cool combos, the system as it stands is not terribly conducive to that.
When you use a skill, it drains mana, and if you wait, it will refresh up to the old level after a few seconds. Mana Management Is Trickier Than Most Gamesįor those new to the Dishonored franchise, it’s going to take some adjustment to get used to how mana works in this game. If you’re planning to play twice, I guess it doesn’t matter, but I think the majority of players will only make it through the game once, if at all, so this is definitely the most important decision of the game.Ģ. With that said, having completed a playthrough with her, I honestly think that Corvo’s original move set is a lot more fun than hers, so there are tradeoffs with either choice. Emily has an entire different set of powers at her disposal so playing as her will be more of a fresh-feeling experience for veteran players. So, who should you pick? Well, Corvo retains almost his entire moveset from the original Dishonored, so if you liked him then and don’t want to lose access to his trademark powers, go with him. I’ve already discussed at length about how much I disagree with this design decision, but I won’t get into that again. The choice you make at the very beginning of the game is a permanent one, and Dishonored 2 is essentially designed around two playthroughs, the same levels with each of the two leads. I know some players will have figured this one out going in, but when the marketing says things like “Play as Corvo or Emily!” you might interpret that as being able to switch between them as the game goes on. The Choice Between Corvo And Emily Is Permanent
